Down and out in Dubai
After very short notice that I needed to travel for work (24hrs) I am in transit in Dubai airport.
An hour or so will be onto Greece. 1 Day in athens, then onto MAdrid that night. One day in Madrid then to rague. One day in Prague then off to Vienne. One day in Vienna then back to Dubai to hook up with Mez for our holiday.
Dubai looks like the inside of any iother airport int he world, only bigger, newer but more crazily designed. IGetting around is like navigating the inside of a Rubics cube.
Arrived at 5:40am, still dark, but 31 degrees outside. No idea what it is now, but I'm definitiely not venturing out for a look.
Planned arrival in Athens is 2:10 Athens time. Have been told the taxi drivers are on strike there. Looking forward to that.
Training Monday was a rest, Tueas a gym session, Wed a very short 30min on bike, Thursday a long flight. Not ideal ont that front either

World's greatest piss
A good training weekend.
Sunday Narrow Neck with Daryl and the tiger. Driving out along Hawksbury Road to collect Daryl House, getting close:
Tubby, looking up the road, spotting a red t-shirt: “That’ll be him. He must have walked up the driveway to the road”.
Gaz: “Does your friend look like a eucalyptus tree??”
Turns out Daryl was a tree with a big red band painted on it. Useless eye-surgeon. USELESS. Besides, who paints a tree red…..
First time on Narrow Neck, and it's an absolute winner. Awesome run, a hilly (at times) 10k out + 10k back along the narrow peninsula that juts out from the Western side of Katoomba. Not more than about 12m wide in parts – brilliant views. At the end of the track you are surrounded by cliff edges, and the opportunity presents to piss right off the ledge into the wilds below. World's best piss - what more could you ask for. Gaz stood right on the edge, but I was overcome with a case of ROP (Rapid Onset Pussyitis) and exercised a far more prudent approach. I stood a couple of metres back and pushed extra hard, aiming high in order to catch the Easterly breeze necessary to nail the required distance.
All in all a solid weekend.
70ish riding - Saturday Greendale
20k of tough run - Sunday
45min easy cycling on Sunday afternoon
A small twinge in the troublesome right calf has me limping slightly this morning, but nothing to worry greatly about. Brett over tomorrow should straighten it out again. Interestingly I broke my self imposed ban on riding the day before a long run - and then I pick up a minor injury. Peanut.

WTF Compression Socks
Got some "free" compression socks with my latest acquisition of 2xu tights. Thought of giving them a crack tonight for a run. Bad bad look. Look like a jam'ie from summer nights high. Even more so when I whacked the school tunic on to match.
7.5k easy at lunch time. Loving running again. Doesn't even matter that i'm slower than continental drift. Running this time of year is definitel one of life's great joys.

A little Music to slash one's wrists to
Gym in the morning 40 min
Pm 65 min on the ergo.
Tried to ease the boredom of the ergo by doing the iPod thing tonight. Never tried it before as I had always assumed that it would likely be something of a distraction from getting in to the session seriously.
65 min and almost all of "songs about ghosts" later, and a check of the hrm Showed ave of 92bpm.
Ha! No training effect what so ever. Complete fail.
Having said that, I haven't played it for a year or so I reckon, and just like good "pain au choc", the less you have the better it tastes when you do. Beautiful, evocative and gloriously depressing songs, but clearly more suitable to accompany a wrist slashing than a high energy training session.
However, the Soul is now fully replenished, so probably a Perfect training session upon broader reflection.
